Sebring, FL. – March 6, 2019 – Residents across 17 Florida Signature HealthCARE locations competed in the sixth annual Senior Olympics games. The fun took place at the Highlands News-Sun Center Fairgrounds in Sebring, Florida today.

Sebring Mayor John Shoop and Sebring Sherriff Paul Blackman kicked off the opening ceremony by proclaiming March 6 Signature HealthCARE Senior Olympics Day across Florida.  The Highlands County Sherriff’s Office Honor Guard with Sgt. Dan Danely then presented the Color Guard, followed by the National Anthem sung by local quartet Wings of Faith.

The day included wheelchair races, basketball, cornhole, reacher relay, team volleyball, and a cheer contest. The champion for the past two years has been Winter Park Care and Rehabilitation Center, but this year, Winter Park had to say goodbye to their reigning title when the Jacksonville Lions of Signature HealthCARE of Jacksonville took home the gold. Win or lose, residents and stakeholders had a blast going head-to-head in a little friendly competition.

“It’s the biggest day of the year for Signature HealthCARE. Residents started practicing weeks in advance, so they were ready to go for game time,” said Sheri Morin, Regional Quality of Life Director at Signature HealthCARE. “We emphasize quality of life here and it’s just another way for these individuals to continue living with purpose at any age.”

Senior Olympics is one of several unique quality of life initiatives Signature hosts to lead radical change across the healthcare landscape. The annual event is breaking stereotypes of the aging population and is something residents and stakeholders look forward to every year. This year’s sponsors included Corner Stone Hospice, Fairway Pines, Healing Hearts, and Good Shephard Hospice.
