Louisville, KY – January 28, 2019 – An annual tradition that first began at Westmoreland Care and Rehabilitation Center in 2010 is becoming a company-wide event for the first time ever. Residents all across Signature Nation will be competing in a Wheelchair Super Bowl on Friday, February 1.

From the dining room to the activities room, spaces will be transformed into an on-site football field using tape. Similar to flag football, residents will be split into two teams at each facility as they race to snatch their opponents’ flags. The Quality of Life teams have already implemented various exercise groups and activities in preparation for the big game. They have teamed up with the Therapy Department and the Restorative Program to make the magic happen. Restorative is a big component of wellness that keeps our residents engaged after therapy completion, which keeps their quality of life high. All residents are welcomed to participate in the big day in some fashion.

“Whether it’s our Speech Therapists getting involved by helping with the cheers and communication, or our Physical Therapists assisting on the mobility side, therapy and restorative are involved in all aspects,” Angie Chinn, Rehab Operations Officer, said.

Teams will have coaches and many teams will have cheerleaders cheering them on from the sidelines. It isn’t a true Super Bowl without a halftime show, so while residents prepare for the second half, various performances will take place for their entertainment. After the game is complete, certifications, and even Super Bowl rings at some facilities, will be presented to the winning teams.
